Members of the inter- religious Council in Ekiti State have sought divine intervention for the June 21 governorship elections scheduled to take place in Ekiti State.

The Council is also to hold prayers for the safe release of the over 200 Chibok girls being held by the terrorists group, Boko Haram and for thee socio –economic development of Ekiti State.

The prayers is coming on the heels of the people's apprehensive mind of unforeseen circumstances of the coming polls due to incessant clashes and attacks that have so far characterized election campaigns of the major political parties in the State.

The members of the inter-religious council believe that with God all will be well, hence the need for the prayers to seek divine intervention of God.

Speaking on the  elections, a member ,the Anglican Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Rev Chris Omotunde called on residents of Ekiti to continue to pray fervently concerning the elections.

He noted that Ekiti State is an homogenous state when compared to many other states of the nation hence there was no need for the people to be quarreling with one another.

The cleric also noted that the Ekiti election was a pointer to what the 2015 national elections will look like ,hence the need for the elections to go well and everything about it be done well.

Earlier in an address he sent to the prayer meeting, the governor who is also a candidate in the coming election, Dr Kayode Fayemi commended the efforts of the council aimed at peace in the state.

Fayemi in the address delivered on his behalf by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi said ,”we have enjoyed peace in the last three and half years in Ekiti,we value peace and we would not allow anything and anybody to truncate that peace by the grace of God”.

Contributing ,the chairman, State Council of Obas ,Oba Adamo Babalola prayed God to touch the heart of evil doers so that the election will be peaceful.

The electioneering campaign it will be recalled has been characterized by attacks on supporters of one political party or the other with regularity of such attacks and accusations within the fold of the three strongest contestants in the coming election, the Labour Party, the People's Democratic PartyPDP and the All Progressive Congress APC,whose candidate is enjoying the privilege of incumbency as the sitting governor on the eve of election.
