DHQ urges visitors,,journalists to seek protection to move in Adamawa,Borno States.

The Defense Headquarters in Nigeria has appealed to tourists, journalists and adventurers to seek necessary security cover or clearance before moving in areas of security operations in Adamawa and Borno States where the Nigerian Armed Forces are currently engaging the Boko Haram group.
                                                                       
The appeal was contained in a statement issued by Director of Defense Information, Major General Chris Olukolade .
                                           
Gen Olukolade stated that the appeal was necessitated by the sudden increased movement of these set of people into areas of security operations in recent times in the two states.
                                                             
He added that though the military believed in the freedom of movement in the country, the need for all persons to recognize the status of certain places in operational areas is also important.
                                                     
The statement however assured that security arrangements will continue to be made for these categories of people especially visitors that have been duly vetted in line with security arrangements to the operational areas.

2014 BUDGET : Constitutional Lawyer sue Senate President,Speaker for "illegal"injection of N53billion into estimates.



Constitutional lawyer, Dr Tunji  Abayomi has sued  the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to a Federal High Court in Abuja over the country’s 2014 budget.
In his suit filed before the court the plaintiff Dr Abayomi is asking the court to make certain declarations over an allegation that the National Assembly illegally injected N53billion into the 2014 Budget estimates submitted before it for consideration by  President Goodluck Jonathan.
The plaintiff is also specifically asking the court to determine whether or not it is within the constitutional powers of the National Assembly led by the defendants to increase the estimates of the budget as submitted to the assembly.
He is further seeking the court to determine whether the National Assembly has the power to tamper with expenditure or budget heading.
Meanwhile no date has yet been fixed by the court for hearing of the suit. 

FESTAC TOWN SHOOTING :Alleged Trigger Happy Police Sergeant in Custody...PPRO

The Lagos State Police command has said that it has commenced investigation into the alleged killing of a young man, Edewor by a police Sergeant in Festac town in Lagos.
         
Speaking to newsmen on the alleged killing , the police public relations officer of the command,DSP Ngozi Braide assured that the police will take appropriate steps to reprimand the accused policeman if found guilty.
                                                             
She pointed out that the Sergeant was already in custody and investigation has commenced in the matter, noting that if found guilty he would be charged to court.
                                               
The deceased was allegedly shot by the Sergeant and all attempts to save his life proved abortive.
                                             
Commenting on the matter, brother to the deceased, Mike Edewor told the press that all the deceased family needed was fair justice.
                                     
Meanwhile, residents of Festac town have decried what they termed incessant shooting of innocent citizens by policemen for no just reason ,adding that they hope this case would address such killings once and for all as it is expected that it will serve as a deterrent to trigger happy policemen in the country.

PIMAN to build 2 refineries in Bayelsa and Kogi States.


Two new refineries are soon to be built in Nigeria ,courtesy the Petroleum Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria.
                     
National President of the association,Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo made the disclosure on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran  Maku in his  office in Abuja.
                                 
Okoronkwo who led members of his executive on the visit said arrangements had already been concluded with the associations technical partners for the construction of the refineries.
                       
According to him , the refineries are expected to be sited in both  Bayelsa and  Kogi States.
                                     
Responding while welcoming the visitors to his office ,the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku enjoined them to be in the lead of the campaign in the regulation of he oil sector of the Nigerian economy.
                                     
He noted that the regulation became necessary as it wil help government to save money and create room for employment to the people. He urged them to key into the transformation agenda programme of the present federal government by embracing the culture of attitudinal change.                           
                                       

TERRORISM: Gov Oshiomhole task media to shun negative reportage.

The Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has appealed tp the media in the country not to compound the present security challenges in the country through negative reportage.
Governor Oshiomhole made the appeal on Wednesday in Benin while addressing the press on current security challenges facing Nigeria and the possible way forward.
‘For example,why should a journalist at such a time in a small crisis between two persons with one attacking the other think it best to use the word war to report such an incident, Of course rather than quell that crisis ,it will fuel it the more” he argued.
According to him , Nigerians must collaborate at this very crucial period of its history to check  mate the security challenges facing her.
He described the present situation  whereby Nigerians are politicizing the issue of security as very dangerous and uncalled for especially in the present lock jam we all find ourselves in the country.
“We all must work together, in the present melee we are in , it does not know age, gender, region or even religion .Everybody have become a victim in this whole thing and it is quite sad”,the governor submitted .
“All I am pleading to Nigerians now is for all of us to please speak as a nation united in one common voice and working together with the federal government to put and end to the security challenges and also ensure the release of those innocent small school girls that were abducted in Borno State”,he further stated .

Ekiti State Govt approves payment of 27.5per cent allowance to teachers


Ekiti State Government has announced the approval of the 27.5 per cent allowance to teachers in the state with immediate effect.
Governor Kayode Fayemi made the announcement on Monday in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting on teachers investment project .
The governor who observed that his administration had come a long way in his journey to reposition the education sector in the state assured the teachers that no deduction is authorized by him on teachers salary beyond what is statutorily permitted.
“Government has not at any time stopped teachers access to loans outside the civil service nor did we at any time inform any bank not to lend money to our teachers as being rumoured in certain quarters” he stated.
“It is also not true that government plans to sack  teachers who have put in 30years and above in service.We have not compiled nor are we trying to compile list of antone in the public service for retirement or disengagement.”he said.
Fayemi said there was in fact no list on his desk waiting to be signed as some people have rumoured .
He assured that his administration would continue to invest in education because that is the only way it could galvanise its developmental efforts.
He announced the donation of an 18 seater bus to the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state for the use of teachers.
Responding, the NUT chairman in the state,Mr Kayode Akosile commended the governor for making life of teachers worthy, noting”we have a lot to mappreciate you for as you have addressed a catalogue of our grievances.”

#BringBackOurGirls :Women ,Children thronged Lekan Salami Stadium,Ibadan for Prayers.


 
: The clamour for the release of the secondary school girls of  Chibok, Borno state, has been taken to Ibadan, Oyo State as women and children in the state filed out in their lar ge numbers to seek divine intervention for the over 200 school girls who were abducted by the notorious terrorist group, Boko Haram which has brought three north east states of Nigeria to a near standstill with social and and economic live of the areas in question paralysed
Though not the first of such protest to hold for the release of the abducted girls in the c, the Ibadan  clamour however introduced a new style to protest rally as the women and children dressed shabbily with their clothes worn inside out topped with red scarf’s and caps on their heads, apparently to depict the mood of their gathering.
A special feature of the “Let us call upon God to intervene on behalf of abducted Chibok school girls” organized at the instance of the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi ,a mother herself, was the brandishing of placards with such inscriptions as “Enough is Enough”, “End abduction of women and girls now”.
In her address at the stadium, Florence Ajimobi prayed that God should save Nigeria from all acts of criminality with speed.

Nigerian indigenous movies will begin to get Oscar nominations from year 2015, it has been revealed.
Ace film maker and Chairperson of Nigerian Oscar Committee ,Chineze Anyaene. made the disclosure while addressing a press conference in Lagos.
Anyaene told journalists that the nominations will be in the best  foreign language category of the Academy Awards especially films.
The highly elated chairperson said the rights had recently been acquired but the whole thing had been in the works for about two years now,
Sound ,music and cinematography are part of the criteria to be used to screen qualifiers,but Nigerian entries are definitely going to be considered for the world’s most prestigious prizes for film awards come 2015.
Popular nollywood actor, Ramsey Noah  no doubt, is a prominent figure having a link with everything concerning this committee made of about 12 members.
